Calicut Airport Duty Free
Renders that were approved by the airport and tourism authorities of the region
The front facade sports louvers that form the backdrop for the logo board while the rest of the facade if kept open to make the store seem more welcoming.
With a combination of louvers and sandwiched leaves, this facade becomes the identity of the store, showcasing the rich floral diversity of the region.
The ceiling is a continuation of the vertical louvres to a horizontal criss cross network to allow sufficient lighting throughout the space while avoiding the unaesthetic cluttered ceiling.
The unique floor demarcation was due to the strict airport regulations clubbed with the client requirement
A unique project situated in the lush city of Calicut(Kozikode). This quaint city is jeweled with rich abundance of flora and fauna. It is this aspect of the city that was crowned the design identity of this store. Leaves of the plants local to the region were sandwiched in glass, a grid of which formed the main facade of the store. To maintain the authenticity of the concept while complying with stringent airport and duty free store policies and guidelines, we used wood finished louvers to adorn the rest of the facade while the roof was a trellis of wood finished pvc rafters. This helped create a minimal streamlined harmony while showing off the region's rich natural heritage.
